Second Grade
Students in 2nd grade will gain more skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. They continue to learn and practice rules for matching sounds to letters that make up words, and they learn new concepts — such as words that share the same root (e.g., add and additional) — that help them figure out the meanings of new words. Writing will become an exciting way for your child to use newly learned words and phrases to express ideas. As they write and speak, 2nd graders will be more attentive to the formal and informal uses of English and will spell most words correctly in their writing.
Arrival/Dismissal
 2nd grade students start school at 8:35 am and are dismissed at 3:05 pm.

Please remember that our Pre-Kindergarten and 1st graders start at 8:20 am, therefor the parking lot may be full at 8:30 am for you to drop off your 2nd grader.

In the morning, If you wish to walk and drop-off your child at the entrance, we have a designated Parent Pick-Up/Drop-Off area in the front of the school. Please park and walk your child to the main entrance.  Unfortunately, parking is limited.. The Doral Park Golf Resort has requested that cars not park across the street from the school.  Additionally, Doral Police have requested that we not use the area for parking.  Please be mindful of our parking situation and try to say your "Good-byes" before you get to the gate, so that other parents can park and walk their child to the main entrance.
If you are not getting down from your car and choose to use the circular driveway for dropping off your child, please pull in the right lane and move down as far as possible. To maintain the traffic flow, there is no parking in this area and no getting out to help your child with their backpacks. Continue to move forward in order to minimize the amount of traffic and the flow of cars. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE and pay attention to the car in front of you and also the crossing guard.
Once at the main entrance, for the safety of all students, parents are not allowed in the building during arrival.  Students in first through fifth grade report to their designated areas under the Physical Education Pavilion or basketball court where teachers will receive them.
Your child needs to be in his/her seat by 8:30 am to be ready when the bell rings at 8:35 am and not marked as TARDY or ABSENT. If you arrive after 8:35 a.m. then you must drop off your child in the main entrance of the school to receive a pass.
Remember, Parents always set the mood for their child's beginning of their day, please help us with this for a good morning!
At dismissal, Students will be escorted to the “PARENT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP” area in the front of the school by teachers to wait for parents. "Parent Pick-Up" students will remain with their teacher in their designated dismissal area in the front of the school until picked up by a parent.  All students will be under the supervision of staff at all times.  Parents are not allowed in the building at dismissal time and are urged not to block the dismissal area in order to move the flow of student traffic safely.  School Staff will be outside at dismissal to ensure that the vehicles keep moving and the students go to their cars in an orderly manner.
Students not picked up within fifteen minutes after dismissal will be escorted to the sitting area directly in front of the main office.
Students riding buses will be escorted by their teachers to the bus area at dismissal for safe boarding procedures.
On days that are raining and/or thundering and lighting, parents will have to park their car and walk into the school to their child's classroom and pick up their child.
Please be reminded that on Wednesday all students are dismissed at 1:50 p.m.

Cafeteria Information
Did you Know...?
  • Breakfast is served FREE to all students each school day from 7:30-8:15am.
  • Healthy eating options such as fresh fruit, whole wheat bread, salads and vegetables are served daily in the school cafeteria
  • The PLC cafeteria is now open for breakfast for PK-K only. Parents are only allowed to eat breakfast in the main cafeteria NOT the PLC cafeteria.
  • The cost of lunch is $2.25 a day Reduced lunch is $0.40 a day. We encourage parents to pre-pay for lunch at www.paypams.com
  • Students need to memorize or bring their student ID number with them at lunch in order to pay. All students need to know how to punch in their lunch numbers.
  • New USDA guidelines now require a fruit or vegetable be served as part of each student's lunch. Milk is optional and is not a required meal component.
  • The school cafeteria sells lunch for adults and non-students at the low price of $3.00 and breakfast for only $2.00.
